HEALTH DATA LICENSING
Data Licensing Toolkit
Access and use are free for hospitals and other not-for-profits.
The Toolkit is available through a non-exclusive licensing agreement.
We are using a licensing agreement because:
- We are creating a community of healthcare institutions who will work together to establish best practices for safe and responsible data sharing to support innovation in Canada. The Toolkit provides INOVAIT with the opportunity to engage with you and your institution on this important discussion.
- Each hospital and institution will use the tools differently. We want to capture the changes you have made to the tools to fit them to your purpose and incorporate them into the public version of the Toolkit for the benefit of others in the community.
UPDATE (01.05.2026): V 1.0 Released!
This version includes INOVAIT’s Data Request Evaluation Scorecard and instructions for use.
The INOVAIT Data Request Evaluation Scorecard (“the Scorecard”) is a tool that healthcare institutions can use to assess requests to share health data with an external party for technology development such as AI. The Scorecard provides a structured approach to identifying and mitigating risks, capturing benefits, and otherwise gathering the input needed to responsibly and efficiently perform institutional reviews of these kinds of requests.
The Scorecard has been validated and is currently in use by the Data Access Committee of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. We are sharing it in an excel spreadsheet format so that it is easy to modify for your needs.
