OTTAWA, ON \u2013 <\/span><\/strong>INOVAIT, Canada\u2019s image-guided therapy and artificial intelligence network, presented the 2025\/26 INOVAIT Awards at its annual meeting in Ottawa yesterday (February 10, 2026). The INOVAIT Awards recognize industry and academic members of the INOVAIT Network who are developing breakthrough innovations in healthcare and spearheading economic development for Canada.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough the INOVAIT Awards, we are spotlighting those who are not only advancing breakthrough medical technologies, but also strengthening Canada\u2019s health innovation ecosystem,\u201d said Kullervo Hynynen, Co-Executive Director of INOVAIT. \u201cThe 2025\/26 award recipients exemplify the leadership, rigour, and real-world impact that define Canadian medtech.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2025\/26 INOVAIT Awards were granted to the following recipients:<\/p>\n

Altis Labs<\/a> received the 2025\/26 Maple Leaf Award.<\/strong>\u00a0The Maple Leaf Award recognizes an industry member who has strengthened working relationships and partnerships with other companies and institutions across Canada. Altis Labs has three INOVAIT R&D projects that have established research collaborations with BC Cancer, Alberta Health Services, Hamilton Health Sciences, Sunnybrook Research Institute, Trillium Health Partners, the University Health Network, and the University of Calgary.\u00a0Altis brings together Canada\u2019s unique AI talent and clinical research excellence to develop prognostic imaging AI models that accelerate drug development.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nova Scotia Health<\/a> received the 2025\/26 Aurora Borealis Award.<\/strong>\u00a0The Aurora Borealis Award celebrates academic institutions and their administrative teams who foster synergetic relationships between industry and academia to drive healthcare innovation. Over the last five years, Nova Scotia Health has partnered on five pan-Canadian R&D projects. Nova Scotia Health also enabled the second Medventions site across Canada, and this year supported the launch of Medventions Atlantic NL in Newfoundland & Labrador. Nova Scotia Health actively champions innovation opportunities and enables the next generation of innovators in Eastern Canada to acquire the skills they need to succeed in medtech. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Profound Medical<\/a> received the 2025\/26 Mount Logan Award.<\/strong>\u00a0This award acknowledges the INOVAIT member who has achieved their project milestones and reached new heights for their company, demonstrating Canada\u2019s greatness on the world stage. Profound Medical has achieved significant milestones and international acclaim over the last year, including treating their 4,000th TULSA-PRO patient, securing new U.S. reimbursement codes from Medicare, and establishing strategic partnerships to expand patient access globally.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are incredibly honoured to receive this award and sincerely thank INOVAIT for supporting AI development of TULSA-PRO as we work to drive widespread global commercialization of this home-grown Canadian medical innovation,\u201d said Arun Menawat, Profound Medical\u2019s CEO and Chairman. \u201cToronto\u2019s renowned Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre was the original innovator of the TULSA-PRO technology, and to date, more than 4,000 men around the world have undergone the TULSA Procedure for prostate cancer and\/or BPH.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

OTTAWA, ON \u2013\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>INOVAIT, Canada\u2019s image-guided therapy and artificial intelligence network, launched the first installment of its Navigating the Canadian Image-guided Therapy (IGT) Sector Series\u2014a comprehensive market research initiative chronicling the experiences of 30 Canadian IGT companies. Drawing on data analysis and in-depth interviews with company leadership, this series provides unique insights into one of Canada\u2019s resilient and emerging medical technology sub-sectors.<\/p>\n

The purpose of this series is to share the knowledge and experiences of IGT founders and executives who have navigated the challenges and opportunities of the Canadian IGT sector, thus helping guide and support others who may face similar obstacles and decisions in commercializing Canadian IGT or medtech.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The series will be released in multiple installments throughout 2026, each focused on critical industry topics. Today\u2019s first part, \u201cFunding & Investment,\u201d delivers actionable insights on capital access in the Canadian IGT sector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe report analyzes diverse funding sources, explores candid perspectives on current government funding mechanisms from company leadership, and offers strategic recommendations to address the most pressing funding issues constraining sector growth,\u201d says Dr. Philip Boyer, lead author of the market research series and Program Manager for the Health Data Innovation Program at INOVAIT. \u201cKey findings reveal specific gaps in the funding ecosystem that, if addressed, could unlock significant economic opportunities and position Canada as a global leader in medical innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The report was officially unveiled at INOVAIT\u2019s Discovery Forum, the organization\u2019s flagship annual meeting held in Ottawa, where industry leaders, investors, and policymakers gathered to discuss the future of Canadian medical technology innovation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
