OTTAWA, ON \u2013\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>INOVAIT, Canada\u2019s image-guided therapy and artificial intelligence network, launched the first installment of its Navigating the Canadian Image-guided Therapy (IGT) Sector Series\u2014a comprehensive market research initiative chronicling the experiences of 30 Canadian IGT companies. Drawing on data analysis and in-depth interviews with company leadership, this series provides unique insights into one of Canada\u2019s resilient and emerging medical technology sub-sectors.<\/p>\n

The purpose of this series is to share the knowledge and experiences of IGT founders and executives who have navigated the challenges and opportunities of the Canadian IGT sector, thus helping guide and support others who may face similar obstacles and decisions in commercializing Canadian IGT or medtech.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The series will be released in multiple installments throughout 2026, each focused on critical industry topics. Today\u2019s first part, \u201cFunding & Investment,\u201d delivers actionable insights on capital access in the Canadian IGT sector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe report analyzes diverse funding sources, explores candid perspectives on current government funding mechanisms from company leadership, and offers strategic recommendations to address the most pressing funding issues constraining sector growth,\u201d says Dr. Philip Boyer, lead author of the market research series and Program Manager for the Health Data Innovation Program at INOVAIT. \u201cKey findings reveal specific gaps in the funding ecosystem that, if addressed, could unlock significant economic opportunities and position Canada as a global leader in medical innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The report was officially unveiled at INOVAIT\u2019s Discovery Forum, the organization\u2019s flagship annual meeting held in Ottawa, where industry leaders, investors, and policymakers gathered to discuss the future of Canadian medical technology innovation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, INOVAIT, Canada\u2019s image-guided therapy and artificial intelligence network, is announcing a call for applications for the Winter 2026 Pilot Fund. The Pilot Fund is a non-dilutive funding program that supports cutting-edge research and development (R&D) projects in image-guided therapy (IGT) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.<\/p>\n

This Pilot Fund round will provide up to 150,000 CAD to advance promising technologies through 9- to 12-month R&D projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Pilot Fund supports industrial research\u2014from discovering new knowledge to developing technology-driven products and services\u2014and large-scale demonstrations that advance innovations into market-ready applications.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cOur Pilot Fund has invested 10.4 million CAD through 83 projects that are transforming the medical technology sector and healthcare across Canada\u2014creating jobs, training the next generation of innovators, and positioning our medtech sector for global leadership,\u201d said Raphael Ronen, Co-Executive Director of INOVAIT. \u201cThis Winter 2026 round represents our continued commitment to turning groundbreaking research into real-world solutions that improve and save lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Funding for INOVAIT is provided through the Government of Canada\u2019s Strategic Response Fund.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cInnovations in AI are reshaping patient care by enabling more precise diagnoses, safer procedures, and better treatment outcomes,\u201d said the Honourable Melanie Joly, Minister of Industry. \u201cThe government\u2019s investment in INOVAIT\u2019s Pilot Fund will boost the development of new technologies to help clinicians deliver faster, higher quality care, which will improve patient outcomes for all Canadians.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cAI is a powerful driver of innovation, accelerating discovery and turning bold ideas into practical solutions,\u201d said the Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of AI and Digital Innovation. \u201cBy supporting AI-enabled research in image-guided therapy and medical technologies, initiatives like INOVAIT\u2019s Pilot Fund help Canadian innovators move faster from concept to production, strengthening our technology ecosystem and ensuring Canada remains competitive in a rapidly evolving global economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This funding program is open to Canadian corporations, academic institutions, hospitals, and not-for-profit organizations.<\/p>\n

Pilot Fund projects are selected based on their ability to demonstrate exceptional scientific, clinical, and technical merit, and their potential for strong commercialization and economic impact.\u00a0<\/p>\n
